Present measures are derived from the most recent scientific insights with respect to critical loads. It was a challenge for scientists to help the policy makers in setting environmental objectives. Though it takes some time to give answers to urgent political questions, finally it is very satisfactory to have a policy which is based on the best available knowledge.
